I believe the scholarship level is similar for both NIV Study Bible and the ESV Study Bible. Because of some advances in biblical scholarship and technology, I like to think that the ESV Study Bible should improve on the NIV Study Bible. I have used the NIV Study Bible for many years. I am more familiar with the contributors there. I see some familiar names in the ESV list. However, there are many with whom I am not familiar.
