Spring Semester 2008

We began our Spring Semester on January 21 at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary. Before the semester advances too far, I wanted to post a few pictures from my classes. At this point in the semester, the students generally look wide awake, though this will quickly change.

The first group picture is of my Old Testament Poetic Books’ class. As the group was preparing to take a short recess, I took a picture of them in the back of our classroom. At this point, they may be thinking what have I gotten myself into.

My Hebrew Exegetical Methods class met for the first time on Wednesday, January 23. Since only three of the eight students brought to class their copies of Biblical Hebraica Stuttgartensia and the electronic versions that the remainder brought did not contain BHS’s critical apparatus, I organized them into three groups so that each one could look at BHS’s textual notes. As they assembled into their small groups, this looked like a “kodak moment” so I took the two following pictures of the men. A few looked like they have the love of Ezra on their faces?

The final two pictures were taken yesterday when my Old Testament Introduction class was taking their first quiz over the first two chapters from Ellis R. Brotzman’s Old Testament Textual Criticism. As the pictures reflect, the men may have been in deep thought about writing in the ancient Near East.

We have a great group of students and it is a rewarding obligation to instruct them. As you think of it, pray for our students because, between the domestic, ecclesiastical and academic responsibilities, they have a full plate.
